Advent Appeal - A Story from Sudan

When the conflict broke out in Khartoum, Sudan – Radwa lost her home and her livelihood.

Rawda, a mother of six (three boys and three girls), was forced to flee her home in Khartoum State due to escalating conflict. Seeking safety, she and her children made the perilous journey to Sudan’s Blue Nile Region, only to face the harsh reality of displacement.

In a matter of days, Rawda lost everything—her home, her livelihood, and the stability her family once knew. Now, she struggles daily to provide her children with even the most basic necessities, like food, shelter, and clean water. Before displacement Radwa had a stable life.

“Before displacement, I had my own soap production micro-enterprise. This small business was the primary source of income for my family. It covered essentials such as food, healthcare and education for my children.”

While in Blue Nile State, Rawda learned about ADRA’s Restoring Access to Water and Food Security (RAWA) project. Through this program, she received targeted livelihood support to help rebuild her business. In a short time, she was able to establish a reliable source of income.

Today, Rawda is giving back by empowering other displaced women. She provides them with employment opportunities and facilitates skill development in producing essential hygiene products, creating a ripple effect of hope and resilience in her community.
