Opportunities: Volunteer Research Assistant

The ADRA-UK Programmes Team is seeking a volunteer to support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Focal Point with capturing and analysing data, creating tools and templates, and reporting on the impact of ADRA-UK’s programme portfolio, as part of actioning the team’s MEAL strategy. 

The role would suit someone with an interest in international development and would provide them with an insight into monitoring and evaluating international programmes, as well as key debates in the sector around accountability and improving programme quality.   

The person will work in collaboration with the MEAL FP, and the role will be supervised by both the MEAL FP and the Chief Programmes Officer. 

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:  

The role will include providing support with the following: 

Consolidating project and programme-level data: 

  • Tracking data against impact indicators 
  • Updating the projects spreadsheet with key information 
  • Updating the project summary sheets 
  • Synthesising data from project evaluations 

Assist with the development of MEAL tools and templates for ADRA-UK’s partners: 

  • Researching and identifying gaps in existing MEAL tools (within ADRA-UK, ADRA-UK’s partners and the wider sector) 
  • Streamlining/standardising reporting tools and templates for partners 
  • Creating a toolkit for beneficiary feedback and complaints mechanisms 

Other monitoring and evaluation tasks that may be required in line the Programmes Team’s MEAL framework and strategy.  

Required qualifications and skills:  

  • Academic background in International Development or a related field 
  • Interest in international development (particularly monitoring and evaluation) 
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information   
  • High attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently 

Timeframe: 

This would be a volunteer role of 3 days a week, initially on a three-month basis from September – December 2019.
